Handicap symbolProposed Accessible Built Environment Standard

The Province has recently conducted a public review of the proposed Built Environment Standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.   Click here to read ONPHA's submission.

Background

As part of the standards development process under The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, the Minister of Community and Social Services is required to establish standards development committees that will develop proposed accessibility standards to be considered for adoption and regulation.

ONPHA has been collecting member feedback on a series of documents in reference to the Information and Communications standard and the Employment Accessibility standards being introduced via Regulation to the Act.  Thus far, a Customer Service standard and Transportation standard have been passed.  The public review period for the proposed Accessible Built Environment Standard ended on October 16, 2009.
