The Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) supports Ottawa City Council’s motion to declare a housing emergency in Ottawa. We urge our over 700 housing provider members to view the motion here .

Ottawa is not alone: Ontario is in a housing crisis. Of the 20 federal ridings nationwide with the worst affordability, 11 are in the province. Indigenous families, seniors, single parents, new Canadians and persons with disabilities are disproportionately affected by Ontario’s housing unaffordability.

Safe and affordable housing is necessary for healthy and inclusive communities. Limited housing forces people to experience homelessness, exposing them to additional health risks and perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

It’s time decision-makers acted, but the city cannot solve the crisis alone. We’re stronger united. ONPHA urges all levels of government to work with the sector to drive solutions for Ontario’s housing crisis. ONPHA applauds the hard work and dedication from Ottawa’s elected officials and the support of the community to push this forward.
